Airports in Mindanao

With the opening of the new Laguindingan International Airport in 2012, Misamis Oriental, Philippines, it is expected to handle more air traffic, passengers and more cargo since it will serve as the main airport of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan cities in northern Mindanao, and a counterpart of the Davao International Airport in Southern Mindanao. Upon is completion,it will be the 4th international airport in Mindanao and will be the first international airport in Northern Mindanao.

Butuan Airport


Bancasi Airport is an airport residing and serving the area of Butuan City. It is located in the province of Agusan del Norte and the only airport in the area. It is also the largest airport in Caraga Region. Bancasi Airport is classified as a major commercial airport by the Air Transportation Office. It is also the only airport that operates flights to Cebu and Manila with the two major airlines in the Philippines, Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines.
Zamboanga International Airport is Mindanao’s third-busiest airport and is the main airport of Zamboanga city, Philippines. The terminal building has a capacity of 400 passengers. The terminal houses a metal detector and an X-ray machine, both located at the main entrance of the airport and before entering the Pre-Departure Area. The terminal also has 2 baggage carousels and push carts for passengers' baggage. The airport has check-in counters for each of the airlines that serve Zamboanga.
Davao Airport
Davao International Airport is the busiest airport in Mindanao region, catering about 2 million passengers and 85,00 metric tons of cargo in a year. It is operated by Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines. It has a single 3,00-meter precision runway and total area of about 200 hectares. It is a hub for various airline companies like Airphil Express and Cebu Pacific. Other airlines that DIA caters include AirAisa Philippines, Philippine Airlines, PAL Express, Wings Air, South East Asian Airlines, Tiger Airways, Zest Air.
Surigao Airport
Surigao Airport is the main domestic airport for Surigao City. Commercial flights to Surigao Airport are operated by Cebu Pacific and PAL Express while charter flights are also available through SkyJet. Chartered flights are usually flights from Siargao, Butuan and Tandag. Surigao City’s airport is a quaint, no-frills facility with one small passenger terminal. It serves flights to and from Cebu through local low-cost airline, Cebu Pacific while flights to and from Manila are operated by PAL Express, a subsidiary of Philippine Airlines, the country’s flag carrier.
